The
database was compiled with information that accompanies each image
file. These information files, or header files, contain information
about the attributes of each image. In order to expedite the process
of reading these header files, a Visual
Basic macro was written within Microsoft Excel. Upon opening
each header file in Excel, the macro was executed for each header,
reading cell locations that contained information that was desirable
for the database. The macro then wrote that information into the
new ASTER database, which was then used to build the map displaying
the locations of coverage.
Database
view, each dot on the map represents an image contained within
the database.
Example
of attributes of each image contained in the database:
-Image
ID
-Time
and date of image
-Geographic
coordinates for the image
-Image
spectral region
-Percentage
of cloud cover
-Solar
azimuth and elevation angle
The database
contains information about nearly 8000 ASTER images with coverage
across the globe. In order to view the password protected
map and acquire imagery, please click the 'database request'
