| The
cornerstone is the last surviving fragment of the Springfield
Normal and Business School. Its Buildings housed the state normal
school from its first session in the summer of 1906 until January
1909, when the first building of Southwest Missouri State University
was occupied. The stone was presented by Mr. & Mrs. Thomas
O'Day Smith and placed on the campus to mark the seventy-fifth
anniversary of the founding of the university. The cornerstone
can be located in front of Carrington Hall. |
