Leaf Arrangement and Shape:
Opposite with simple, oval to egg-shaped leaves
Fruit Type:
Drupe (seed covered by fleshy pulp, dark blue)
Maximum Height:
35 feet

Bark was boiled by Native Americans to treat wounds and fever associated with malaria. Pioneers used crushed bark to treat cuts and bruises. The white flowers appear in late spring in clustered, drooping fringes.
