Missouri
Leaf Arrangement and Shape:
Opposite with compound palm-shaped leaves (7 or so leaflets)
Fruit Type:
Leathery capsule
Maximum Height:
50 feet

These leaves are the first to emerge of all tree species in the area. Buckeye seeds are considered poisonous until they have been boiled or roasted, and have been carried in pockets to prevent rheumatism. Buckeyes are thought to be good luck by some people.
