Leaf Arrangement and Shape:
Alternate with simple, heart-shaped leaves
Fruit Type:
Pod (legume; 3 to 4 inches long)
Maximum Height:
30 feet

Serves as a nectar source for bees and seeds are eaten by several bird species. The flowers have a sour or pea flavor and are sometimes used raw or pickled in salads. They are fried in Mexico. The twigs have a zig-zag pattern to them.
