Native to:
Missouri
Leaf Arrangement and Shape:
Alternate with simple, 3 to 5 lobed leaves
Fruit Type:
Ball of single seeded achenes that droop on a stalk
Maximum Height:
120 feet

Sycamores are easy to spot by their irregular bark pattern. The upper trunk and limbs peel off the reddish-brown to show white bark. Great blue herons are fond of the huge, irregular crown of the Sycamore. Ninety-eight percent of their rockeries in Missouri are in this tree. Butcher blocks and buttons are made from Sycamore, because it is hard to split.
